Blue Eyed Boy

This is my eldest son Nathan who we simply adore. He is such a kind and generous child who makes his parents so very proud of him. His Uncle Bruce reckons he should be a model, yet I am pretty sure he has already seen enough cameras for a life time with me wanting to capture his amazing personality all the time. His guitar playing is apparently grounds for his rockstar haircut and helps make this photo in my opinion really special.

F/3.2 to narrow the depth of field and then a B&W conversion to emphasise Nathan’s amazing blue eyes. Although his mum & I are heavily biased we always thought Nath was a good looking kid…but hay that is what all parents think.

Brooklyn Bridge

When visiting NYC in February 2012, my sister-in-law Michelle had asked me to take some photos of the Brooklyn Bridge. I was more than happy to oblige as it gave me an extra excuse to take more photos whilst on my gorgeous wife’s 40th Birthday trip ; )

Now having previously not been to NYC & therefore the Brooklyn Bridge I thought this would be a snap! Once I actually got there I quickly realised this would not be as simple as I originally thought. Some immediate challenges were;

1. even though it was winter, there were so many people either walking or riding across the bridge it wasn’t funny. Despite the obvious challenge of not having someone walking directly in front of my camera, the other difficulty were the vibrations caused due to the walkway being wooden : |

2. there were some serious ongoing repairs (like Sydney Harbour Bridge’s almost constant repainting) to the sides of the bridge which meant the classic side-profile photos were almost pointless : (

Brooklyn Bridge - B&W [2x1]

The above photo is one I like the best & here is how I captured it….

Being in America meant I needed to be bolder & so I decided to place my tripod slap bang in the middle of the walkway. Now this act was considered rather rude & much to the displeasure of the cyclists & pedestrians alike. Little did they know that I was on a special mission all the way from Sydney. I then proceed to snap away with nearly empty bridge in front of me…..while my gorgeous wife Julie held back the oncoming hoards.

This photo was then processed in Adobe CS5 Photoshop with Topaz Laps pug-in. I hope you all like the end result.

Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges

It was fantastic to be able to take my gorgeous wife Julie to NYC to celebrate her 40th birthday to fulfill one of her life long dreams. This was of particular importance for us as it was our first holiday alone (without our 3 wonderful kids) & so after nearly 10 years, it was fantastic to spend some quality time together.

Now being a photographer, I could not resist but take a few photos…..

Below is a 8 image stitch to create this B&W panoramic photo looking to Manhattan from Brooklyn. What I love about this photo (other than this was one our favourite locations from our holiday) is the stark contrast of the sky / clouds with Manhattan Bridge (left), the Brooklyn Bridge (right) & Manhattan as the backdrop.

For those interested, this image was created using 8 individual photos taken using my Novoflex VR II System (Panoramic tripod head) to ensure there are no stitching anomalies when I use Photoshop CS5 to create this panoramic image. The post processing (editing) utilised basic photoshop functions & Silver Efex Pro (a specialist B&W conversion plugin) to produce the final image.

I hope you like the overall result – it would look great large on any lounge wall : )
